Toad, that is on sweet looking note and one of my favorite US designs. As for the grade it looks uncirculated to me, maybe a unc 63. I'm still working on my paper money grading skills. Lou
I know you would do anything, but you have limits Which is why no one will ever know who you are, where to find you, or even if you exist
I haven't figured out yet if you re just a computer generated object, told it was a toad and to reply to us humans Usually they don't make them like that, which is why you're 'different'
Now for The Rest of The Story. This note is currently for sale on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/PRISTINE-NEW-1-1896-EDUCATIONAL-SILVER-CERTIFICATE_W0QQitemZ290297658504 And it sold January 2009 at Heritage: http://currency.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=3504&Lot_No=14990&src=pr So now you have found out what some sellers on Ebay are doing, they're buying medium grade bills and doctoring them to make them look Unc and relisting them as Unc on Ebay. To me, that's criminal but to Ebay, it's a buck. :goof: I thought you guys would like to see this firsthand, so that's why I posted it how I did. I wanted an unbiased opinion as to grade, before you saw what the original grade was. And for those that don't know it, this bill has a pedigree so it will never obtain a better grade than it had before and now that it's been messed with, the grade may even go down. :goofer: Ribbit
If you look at the Ebay auction, the seller says where they got it from: WE RECIEVED THIS GORGEOUS EXAMPLE IN THE HUGE COLLECTION WE JUST PURCHASED FROM AN ELDERLY GENTLEMAN THAT SAID HE HAD OWNED THE NOTE FOR OVER 50 YEARS AND IT HAD SPENT MOST OF ITS TIME IN HIS SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX !! What a crock! :goof: This seller has been caught doing this before and they are making a ton of money off their deception and Ebay doesn't care, since they are also making money. Ribbit
Usually a type of "Dry Cleaning" (chemicals not water) then pressing the notes (could use a household iron). We call it "Washed & Pressed". Ribbit
who says the ebay seller doctored it.. look at the note from the heritage auction. Even they say its a CU note, i didnt see anything that says why the note was graded the way it was. Is there any way to tell if a note has been chemicaly treated as toad presents? An honest buyer buys the note based on the images and description and such.. he gets the nopte.. how is he to tell the note is not fully original.
That's why you don't buy raw high end notes on Ebay. The likelihood they've been messed with is extremely high and if you will look again at the description on Heritage, they talk about the crease and if you look very close at the enlarged pic of it off heritage, you will see the crease dead center and that crease is missing on the NEW note on Ebay. It is clear the sellers of the note on Ebay purchased this off Heritage and they've been caught doing it with others from Heritage and they always take them out of their holders, doctor them, then list them as CU, when they know full well they are not CU.
