hi , I'm newish here , I have 2 royal mint sets , one is a 1953 coronation majesty year proof set, numbered 252/479 and other is 40th anniversary of decimalisation majesty proof set 087/499 ...I can't find any anywhere to get a value .........any ideas please
You have an aftermarket set that was plated by a private company without any official standing. The coins are likely circulated, as is often the case with plated pieces, but my be uncirculated. Sadly, there really isn't any value associated with these at all since they are just damaged coinage.
Actually these would have a value of whatever someone would pay you. They are attractive and someone might want them. That place might be ebay or a flea market, but probably not a coin shop.
Mark, anytime someone plates, paints, colorizes, polishes or cleans coins they lose most of their value and true collectors lose interest. They may have some value as a nice conversation piece to someone seeking a souvenir of an event of historical significance, if that were the case here, but they aren't collectable or valuable beyond that.
Many thanks guys , I got them at an auction in a job lot with another 2 empty cases /boxes (which are wood) and 2 half crowns I wanted
You might try selling them on eBay. There they just might sell as someone may be interested in adding them to their collection.
