I've been working on a collection, and just want a general reference I can write on the 2x2 to keep track of condition. Let me know what you guys think.

IMO, AU-55 cleaned (need better closeup to be sure on that), VF-20 corroded, and XF-40, ugly toning if not questionable.

I agree, that Indian head cent is completely the wrong color.

and with the 2 others I agree whole heartedly.

That last one is uncirculated (wheat penny vdb), I didn't know uncirculated coins could be graded as xf? but then again I don't know very much about grading at all, maybe i was lied to about the coin being uncirculated?

Indian head was a cleaned coin when I got it though, I heard this can devalue the coin, is that true? And how can you tell it's a cleaned coin?

Wow, the color of that IH looks really weird. It makes the coin look fake. However, it could be the lighting, camera, etc.

    It's in great shape though...

how can you tell it's been circulated (wheat penny)?

Color is somewhat off on the indian head, and looks to be in some sort of uncirculated condition, but doesn't matter a whole lot if it has been cleaned... Looks like you are using all eBay pictures, take pictures of the coin, when you get it

The flying eagle penny is nice, VF
The 09 VDB's toning is weird looking, and it looks like I see a fingerprint on it...I think it could be falsely toned, and has been altered with, and quite possibly cleaned in a way, giving it that luster. That lincoln penny is not uncirculated, it has some wear on the jaw.

yeah it's been cleaned, I thinks that's why.

    Here is a better question...
What makes you think that the coin is uncirculated?
Do you have the coin in person, can you see wear. From those ebay auction listing pictures, I see wear near the jaw, not complete details if you ask me
What to you indicated that this coin was uncirculated, was it the luster that was present? That luster is questionable, as is the toning. If the seller said uncriculated, than you did get ripped, if you paid an uncirculated price..

I think the word I'm looking for on the VDB is "baked"
The coin looks like it was just taken out of the oven

    wow, you're good.

thanks, this is what the coin was listed as on ebay:

1909 VDB wheat penny in higher BU grade
    Condition:
    Uncirculated

    Mint:
    Philadelphia

    Method of Manufacture:
    Business Strike

got it for about 20$, think I should get a refund? I still can.

    All depends on you..
If you think that you paid a fair price, and you like the coin, than keep it, and learn from your mistakes. If you think you paid an extremely ridiculous price, for the coin, and think the listing was falsely advertised, than by all means go right ahead and get your money back
Be weary of buying ebay coins in the future, make sure they have good pics, and show details on the coin. If it is blurry, and looks bad, no chance in taking a risk :)

good point, looks like the price isn't that much different, I'll have to take a look at it once it arrives. Then I can always return it if I feel ripped. Everyone seems do have a negative opinion about the toning though, I'll prob return. Is there anyway to check if the toning is authentic?

On the IHC - the color of the coin looks very flat. No luster left on it from the pictures. Your coin reminds me of this 1868 I posted. I could be off base because it is hard to judge from photos, but when I saw it I immediately thought of my 1868 coin. I don't see anything wrong with the Flying Eagle and agree the grade is probably VF. The 1909 does looked baked as tmoney suggested. To me for $20 it is not worth the return postage.

oh nice pic, like the zoom up feature.

Are you saying it'd be best to just keep it? It is in pretty good condition after all & from a good year, toning has been remark by just about everyone here as questionable, not to mention it was advertised as UNC, which everyone disagrees with though, (there needs to be a should I buy this section, lol) wish there was a way to know if it was for sure if the tone was a "true" tone or not. If I knew for sure the tone wasn't counterfeit I would definitely just keep it. I guess I can always post better pics when it arrives, after all, I'll have 7 days from then to decide whether to return it or not.

yeah I mainly selected the IH b/c for the most part all the texture was still there not to mention overall great condition.(when I first started collecting I just would get any old coin, now I regret it b/c it's just not the same)

Thanks for the info, just not sure about what this means? "fire sale coin" does that mean it's "baked" or artificially toned? and how exactly can you tell?
