Can PCGS slab holograms have wear damage?

I recently purchased a 2.5 Indian head and noticed the PCGS hologram has what looks like wear damage.

However, the hologram doesn't seem to be a sticker on the surface of the slab, could damage occur under the plastic?

    From Ebay...

I don't have a pic, haven't tried to photograph. Not sure it will show up on the photograph due to the nature of the hologram.

Here is a link to the auction.

After looking at the posted pictures more closely, I can see it in the photo.

The damage is right above the GS, I hadn't noticed before due to the background, looks like carpet. Holding it up without the carpet in the background, it looks black.

Since the holograms are on the outside of the holder - yes.

Sometimes I've seen holograms damaged by stickers / removal. It looks a lot worse than the OP coin.

Embedding doesn't mean placed in between two layers of plastic. It means carved into the plastic from the outside.

Come to think of it... seems like most of the torn up holograms I've seen were on NGC slabs. I could be mistaken.

.......wouldn't it be WISE to sandwich the hologram between the plastic? along with any other pertinent information? sounds like a no-brainer.
