This was posted in another thread, but I felt that it warrented its own thread. Gang, None of you know me personally..... but if any of you did, you would know that I am very mild mannered and very forgiving. My wife, my family and my friends are often impressed when something bad happens and how I take things in stride. I don't lose my cool and chalk up bad purchases or other stupid things as lessons learned and move on. There is no point on getting mad or holding grudges... I just don't do it. Even when people dump on me, I just keep on going. But this mint thing has really put me over the edge. I am so mad that I am shaking!!!!! I am not mad about the overpriced coins I bought a year ago. I am not mad about the overpriced coins I bought 6 months ago, I am not even mad about the coins that I paid a rediculous amount for a MONTH ago. What I am fuming about is the FS coin that I bought 6 freakin' days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As some of you read my post this morning, you understand what I went through with the US mint CS reps. This afternoon I read here on CT that the mint released their new prices today. So I called back the mint to see if there was anyway to cancel my order and re-order it or anything of the sort to receive a credit. The answer was still a resounding NO! Then something snapped, I didn't yell, but I defintely raised my voice and became very stern and chastising the mint for their poor decision with their new pricing. I was ticked that the mint would screw a long time loyal customer as myself. The coin was ordered 6 freaking days ago and probably won't get shipped for another week or so as usual. I then began ranting of how loyal I have been and how many years I have been buying from the mint and how I never even asked for my return shipping costs back when I sent one of my coin sets back due to damage. This is where it gets good..... The rep then cuts me off and says that now that I have mentioned damage that she is flagging my account as a potential risk for sending back damaged product!!!! Are you freaking kidding me. She said that they will now pay special attention to anything that is sent back damaged and do a full investigation to see if I am damaging coins and sending them back. This is where I really went off. Why would I damage something that I really, really want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to have to send anything back, but if it is damaged I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She also said that she flagged my account that if I do send back my FS coin that I ordered, they will still charge me the orginal price and do not have to honor the new price for me if I reorder it. Also, they reserve the right to not send me anything at all. Now folks, $70 is not going to break me..... but it is the principle of the whole thing. I am so mad right now that I am thinking of writing all my senators and congress people to let them know about this...... if nothing else, just to get this off my chest. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!:headbang::headbang::headbang:
It's really too bad they don't have customer service like most discount stores. If you buy something today, and it goes on sale within two weeks, they'll refund you the difference. I guess you don't have to do that if you have a monopoly.
i think most people have canceled orders online at the old prices and reordered at the new prices, I am not sure how the mint thinks they can keep that from happening.
Your know, which you tweak a bureaucrat, they do things like that. You have to remember that they are not a business. They are the Mint, a government agency. You should try dealing with nurses. Nurses are worse. You might have a weapon on your side though to help things along. Call your congressman's office. The Mint is a government agency.... Ruben
Now jaceravone is in full rage like his avatar! At last, his true nature is revealed like The Hulk! Seriously, I understand your reaction. It is normal to be frustrated when dealing with idiots. You could write whomever, but remember that it takes an act of God to fire anyone who works for the feds. Talk about job security! Perhaps the only solution is to fantasize as if you were Detective Calahan!
Catbert, now you can understand why I chose that AVATAR!!!! That is exactly why I picked that because this is what coin collecting does to me! LOL! It really has bothered me all day which is unlike me. Even my wife was so surprised to see me this bothered. I am going to wait a few weeks or so and try to call back and speak to someone in a higher position. I just want to make sure that I am not labeled as a trouble maker. But I also want the piece of mind that if I do have a problem with a coin and I have to send it back, that I wont have this full blown investigation after me. I know if I was on the other end of that phone call that I probably would have done the same thing. The little kid inside of me is stomping all over the place and saying that I will not collect US coins anymore, but that is so far from the truth. And Ruben, you forget..... I do work with nurses every day.... and you are right... you don't want to **** them off. You know when you call the doctors office and they put you hold after you just *****ed at them.... do you really think they are busy doing something for you? Maybe... Maybe not. :kewl: Hope you brought along a good book, you may be waiting for a while. :goof:
If you paid by credit card I'm guessing that you could do a charge back, but I can't think of what reason you might give? Maybe that you ordered the wrong thing? But maybe you would "get flagged" for that too. So What? Just order the next time with a different name (use a different middle initial).
Climb the ladder my friend. Call back and ask to speak to the manager. If that person can't help, ask to speak to their manager. Eventually, you will get high enough that the person will give you what you want just so you go away. Remember, don't use profanity or raise your voice. And repeat the following phrase over and over "why would you treat your customers this way?" Write down every name of every person you talked to and if they say something rude, write that down as well. good luck
Joe, good advice from Lehigh. Ask to speak to a supervisor, and I would do it double quick. Did you get the name of the person who said they were going to flag your account? If so relate this information to that supervisor. That person had no right to flag your account. And please, don't take it to the Harry Callahan level. Besides, the drive to Texas is way too long.
What you have stated as your experience is the exact reason why I will never, Never, NEVER deal with the US mint. They suck.
I wouldn't worry about your rep with them - for two reasons: 1. Apparently it doesn't matter as you've experienced. 2. As someone above said, you can always buy under your wife's name, etc. if you really want to.
I have to agree with Lehigh start taking it up the ladder of responsibility, you are the customer so expect to be treated with respect and not like a criminal.
Hey! I'm a nurse, I think we go out of our to be as nice as we can to demanding patients and families. And when you call a MD's office do you think they are paying a registered nurse to answer the phone, not. But, horrible service by another civil servant at the mint or any other government agency for that matter. Like someine else said they have are the only mint we have. Too bad, another uncaring civil servant.
There's always ancients...and we don't have problems like these from the mint. Just something to throw around in your mind Joe. stainless
The Mint is so disorganized that it is unlikely that they will ever be able to retrieve a record of your conversation if you ever return a coin, so don't worry about it.
Joe - I would take a two prong approach - Go up the ladder on the phone and cancel your order. I am sure you know someone that would order the item(s) for you at the reduced cost. Set up a new account and use a business address. I would also write a letter to your Congressman as well as Director of Customer/Public Relations at the Mint telling them how this specific person is abusing her position and representing a government agency in a very negative and unprofessional manner. It's these same people that you just hope someday have to do business with someone that treats them in the same awfull manner. Sorry to hear of your troubles! Good Luck!
