    Hi, Katie! Welcome to the neighborhood.

    If you have a Krause book, it explains how to decipher the date. That's the best I can offer. There should be someone along who can help you.

    they are both from the ottoman empire, the first is from Egypt when it was part of the empire, 1327AH year 5 I believeby . The second is 1255AH, year 14.They did the dates that way representing the Ascension date of the ruler followed by the year of his reign.
    It is kinda hard to tell the value on each, I think the first is 10 kurush. The 5,10 and 20 were all the same except for size it seems to a person who cant read the words.

    BTW, 1255AH = 1839+14=1853, for the second
    1327AH=1909+6=1915 for the first

    If you could give a size or weight on each we could nail down exactly what they are in denomination.

    It is pretty pricey, especially if you need more than one century, but most public libraries have them, and if yours doesn't, it can quite easily get them by inter-library loan. What you are looking for is the Standard Catalog of World Coins, from Krause Publications.

    (Every numismatist needs a library card!)

    Hontonai's right, they are pricey for new ones. Try amazon and look for used copies, that's where I got mine. They were both approx 5 year old copies from libraries who probably replaced them with new ones. Not much really changes in them except for the pricing which is pretty much BS anyway.

    Hi! :hail: Before you buy try your local Library.

    You don't need an up to date Krause to identify your coins so why not save your money? Your taxes likely support your public library. You might as well get something in return. If you feel you need a Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins afterward, then by all means pick one up.
