Can anyone tell me what's up with this coin?

It's got a unique color to it, almost a bright yellow. It weighs 2.5g like the usual penny. So, I'm confused.. please educate me.

    WHAT YEAR AND MINTMARK?

It's a 1984 cent... zinc inside, with a thin copper coating.

Maybe it was electroplated -- a shiny novelty item.

Or possibly the result of high school chemistry:

When I was a kid we used to rub Mercury on pennies and make them all shiny and silvery color.

It's never going to any significant value beyond face, but if you like it, keep it. You only have $0.01 tied up.

That's the joy of collecting. As long as you're realistic about the value of a coin (or lack thereof), then you can save anything you want, regardless of what others think

I found this, it's gold plated. Fortunately it's only a large date.
I assume yours is plated. People do stuff with pennies all the time.

That there are many ways, such as offering different publications to refer, OTHER than 1 sentence disinterested comments....

    Never seen one what?
That penny appears to be a normal 2003 Lincoln cent that has environmental damage on it, Donovan. Perhaps someone got something on it or it was glued to something.
I'm not a scientist and I don't have the coin in my hand, but that's pretty much the story even if I were and if I did.
Is there something else you've noticed about the coin that I may have missed?
If so, please point it out. Everyone here is happy to help.

Welcome to Coin Talk and Thanks for Posting.

BTW, it's just worth a penny.
