According to david bowers, the strike for this year and mark is: below average, insipid, and unnatractive. The fields are relatively clean, and as a result, I can't decide if this coin is an au-58 or ms-60. Any opinions?
I'm going to suggest it could be MS-60 from the scans because I have noticed that scans always wash out the finer details of the hair and breast feathers when the coin is weakly struck. That said it might be a high AU. Either way it looks like a very nice coin.
Z-Man, As you know if it's been in circulation... yada, yada, yada, but if it hasen't seen the pocket or saddle bag then it can be practally beat to heck and be MS-60 (the worse Mint State possible). That coin could go AU-58 or MS-63/64 easy Bone
If it has lots of luster, it should grade 60. I don't see wear. You have the coin in hand and would be able to make the best determination of wear and thus an AU versus MS grade...Mike
Nice Morgan. If that's not wear I see on the breast, yes It could go for MS-60 or higher, but If it is wear it's definitely AU-58. B12
The Details are decent i.e. the grain in the hair and the hairlines but I would go with AU-58 because of the ridge condition. But I cant really pinpiont what the luster is....so i would go with AU-58
I do not see that darker gray that characterizes wear. I call it mint state but I would have to see it in person before I paid ms money.
