Correct on all counts. This 1942 1.2g aluminum coin is Y#61a, the mid-point of a WWII debasement of Japanese currency. The design originated with a 1.5g weight (Y#61) in 1940. Part way through 1941 the weight was reduced to 1.2g, and in 1943 it was further reduced to 1g (Y#61b). As the war wore on, 10 sen coins were further debased, changing to 2.4g of tin-zinc in 1994, and reverting to 1g aluminum in 1945-46, after which the denomination was eliminated. During 1945 a baked clay version was experimented with, but never circulated. The coin is misaligned in its holder. The upper right corner of the second picture is the top of the obverse, and the lower right corner of the first picture is the top of the reverse.
Thanks to both of you for helping me. Total rookie here with a box of world coins, just trying to keep track of them. I was told that out of the 200+/- coins I might a few gems. Thanks. Good to know this is aluminum.
