I know that half sovereigns were often produced in much fewer numbers than full sovereigns and that early Sydney Mint half sovereigns are usually found in well used condition and quite rare. Recently won this 1865 Sydney mint VF35 half sovereign which is a very hard date to find in any decent condition. There used to be a website which gave the mintage numbers for half sovereigns as well but I can't seem to find it anymore. Can anyone help with the mintage numbers or website please. Here's the coin: Thanks
Hope this helps. That is low comparatively. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...eign-km-3-1857-1866-cuid-1042754-duid-1214004
I'll look this one up in my world gold atlas for you ...it's old but one of my best references over the years.
But to be honest 62,000 mintage isn't a small mintage for word coins. By US standards yes, it would be. I have owned world gold coins where the mintages were under 100.
I hear what you say and I’ve got coins with a mintage of 2 with only 1 in private hands but many sovereigns and half sovereigns were either heavily circulated, melted and re-minted, or damaged over the years so a 62,000 mintage number is actually very scarce especially for any kind of problem free example. That is why even a VF or XF grade is quite pricey for this year.
