Hi all, I'm quite new to the coin world, having had my interest sparked with a large number of coins being 'handed down' to me. I had a bag full of British old pennies, mostly worthless, but in this group I found an unusual coin(I think the way it was stored, heaped with the other coins, has caused the scuff on one side!). It is around 30mm diameter, about 1mm thick. I've searched through 3 books, and looked for hours through e-bay to try to get clues as to what it is and possible value, but I have absolutely no idea. I thought maybe it was Irish or Scottish, but this is just guessing. Any ideas? Many thanks!
Welcome to the forum. I think it's a 15th/16th century German "Reckoning Token' used for business transactions. Here is a pic of s similar item. http://www.coincommunity.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=180&pos=1
Thanks Bonedigger, does look pretty similar. - I've tried to decipher the inscriptions on the coin, but there are a couple of 'backwards' D and B letters - do these get read as 'normal' D and B? Any ideas as to what the inscription means? Also, any idea on value? Many thanks
