I've got a penny, I'm not sure of the date because, well, that side of the pennies missing. It's like it just fell off or something. I don't have any pictures right now but I could get some if needed.Any insight that you have would be helpful. Thank you.
It is impossible to say anything for sure without seeing at least a picture of the coin. I can think of at least five things that can cause what you are describing, two of them being Post mint damage and three being legitimate errors. But without seeing the coin I can't say which one it is or if there are other possibilities.
Really hard to hazard a guess. I found one today that only had the reverse (tails) on it. I had to use a 35x loupe behind my lighted magnifier to see the scratches. Mine was ground down smooth and it was impossible to determine the year and mint. Of course I tossed it in the "dump" box, because I could see no value there.
If you don't mind me asking - what do you do, if anything, with your "dump" box? Is it strictly limited to damaged coins?
Once you post (good, in-focus) photos you will probably get your answer. Please don't take photos of your coin at steep angles because that throws large portions of the coin out of focus.
