Can air-tite's scratch my coins?

Hello. I went out and bought 3 air-tite holders for some of my valuable wheat cents. When I put them in, I flipped the air-tite holder over to see the reverse. My coin rattled around in there. Can that in anyway damage my coin?

Anybody have any other ideas for long-term coin storage protection?

No, Airtites are made of plastic and will not scratch your coins. Capital Holders can also be safely used for long-term storage of more valuable coins.

if your coin is rattling, the airtite is more than likely too big

Did you buy the Airtites with the o-ring inside? I've never had a problem with these causing the coins to be too loose. I think they cost a cent extra, but well worth it.

I've had a few problems with the rings being a little wider than they should be. It leaves a little gap between the coin and the ring. I have a quarter eagle that rattles a little bit, but I think going down to a 17mm would be too tight a fit. Capital holders are nice too.

I agree that they won't scratch coins, but if they allow the coin to slide around inside, you can come up with rub marks that can easily convert an MS specimen to an AU.

    Hey Jersey!

I'm a huge fan of airtites. They not only protect your raw coins but allow others to handle them for viewing while leaving you so nervous about the oops factor.

After reading this post, I was wondering if you actually have "airtites" or a simular product made by other manufacturer. Original airtites, to my knowledge, don't use velvet rings. Their's is a semi stiff foam. How ever their "direct fit" holders can allow the coin to rattle some what. Their ringed holder would not rattle at all, if sized correctly.

Go to their web site and check out their products. No I'm no affilated with them in any way. I just love their product. Much more so then Capitol. If you scatch the cover of a Capitol holder your out big bucks. Airtites are much much cheaper to replace.

Keep on Collecting and Keep Them Raw.
