At work I am mentoring someone from Cameroon, and I thought it would be cool to show him sims coins from his country. Looking at eBay, they is a lot of various special commemorative coins but not much regular coinage used in circulation.

Here's what I have. Mostly older. I don't know what they use today. Possibly the West African coinage that covers several nations.

You can find them in "junk" bins at some coin shops from time to time.

Go to ma-shops.com and put cameroon in the search box. You'll find lots of coins at reasonable prices. Just have to sort out the real coins from the commem garbage.

Thanks for posting that coin. I didn’t realize that the rooster image (le coq) was used outside of France. The date on this one indicates that it was French defiance abroad while the Nazis ruled the homeland. Note to @Dimedude2: Unless you know otherwise, probably best to stay away colonial era coins for your Cameroonian friend.

Several French African colonies issued similar coins during the war.

I went to 2 coin shops in Iowa and they did not have any Cameroonian coins. I guess I’ll keep searching.

That might be something you have to buy online. Unless you find a coin shop that specializes in foreign you likely won't stumble upon one.
