Well when I picked up this 1922 Peace Dollar and turned it over to look at the reverse, I knew it would be an interesting VAM and hopefully not too hard too attribute. But, after a while of looking on VAMworld, I just couldn't find a match. I was hoping maybe @Cascade, @SuperDave or @messydesk might be able to help out with this one. The pick-up I'm going by is the larger I believe Die Gouge under DOLLAR and to the right of the olive branch on the reverse. Thanks in advance.
I think you're right. I did an overlay and it matches up to the deep recess above Liberty's head next to her hair bun. That explains why it didn't look like a die break and it looked like a weird die gouge.
So I just found out Peace Dollars have VAMs too... Haha, I need to spend more time on VAM World and get better at learning these.
So do Eisenhower's JK We call Peace VAMs "The Dark Side". They're not as fun (to most) and can be more challenging
To clarify, Ike's have their own variety numbering system (DIVa) established by The Ike Group for their exclusive use. I can't find much more information on it than that, as even though they say that varieties are illustrated on their website, none appear there. I assume that TPGs that attribute the minor varieties would use the CONECA numbers to do so. There are no Ike VAMs.
Tell me about it. I got a 1921 peace that im having trouble with. It shouldnt be that hard but the surfaces are so "odd" like it reminds me of a sunburst effect almost. The problem I find with most peace dollars is that you cant use a microscope very easily cause the details are so soft usually.
Tell me about it. And I'm the one that finds the new 1Bi with possible "prototype" scribbles. I don't even like scribbles lol
Chris, the 1BI D1 21 is your find? Freakin awesome! Just had a look, sweet! Now get over to VW and help me out on my 23P with the crack thru eagle head to rim. LOL!
Scribbles are what my 4 year old does with a pen. I can't believe the number of different VAM's there are in the 1921 Morgan series and 1922 Peace Dollar Series. It's enough to make you go blind at times.
I despise the 1921 scribble varieties. I have wasted too many hours looking at those, and they cost me money trying to attribute them. Bourbon isnt cheap
