How many of you guys collect the Byzantine Empire ancients... 654AD Constans.

I'm thinking about picking one up around $750 CH AU condition.

I do, but we'll need more info on the coin and photos if possible, to give you more informed opinions.

I don't collect Byzantine coins even though I own a few, but $750 sounds like it should be a very nice Byzantine.

This is at a friends shop... he just shot me over the pic... gold looks incredible.. just not too familiar with Ancients. He is thinking these are gaining ground... says I should move. Fellow to Fellow... he could be right?

I think the price is a bit high for that coin. There are lots cheaper in similar grades minus the slab. So far I don't see anything making me believe the slab is official by one of those grading companies. Maybe someone that knows more about slabs can help you.

We would like to see the reverse of the coin as well.

Here is a link to a search of these coins and you can see the prices as a comparison.

The coin is real... from a reputable dealer. it is authentic I am good friends with this guy and he works for a good shop! I might talk him down a little see if he will take $600 for it!

Never said it wasn't real. I think you should check the slab because that's what you're paying for, for that high of price. The coin is also clipped which means that the edge was shaved all around the coin to remove a portion of the gold. This was often done in ancient times but all the same it lowers the value of the coin.

It's an NGC slab - no worries there if the cert number checks out. But the coin is clipped (which is not uncommon) and the inscriptions are compromised. Pass. $600 could get a choice example with full legends. This is not a rare coin.
