Hi, I'm interested in some coins being sold in the upcoming Numismatica Varesti auction (http://www.varesi.it/en/aste_prossime.php). This house is in Italy, but the coins are also show on one of the auction aggregators CoinCircuit.com. 1. Has anyone used coincircuit.com before? 2. Has anyone bought a coin from Italy and had it shipped to the US? I ask about this because under the sale conditions, it says: "Esportazione - Salvo differenti accordi le domande di esportazione devono essere inoltrate dagli acquirenti. Eventuali dinieghi non potranno in alcun modo annullare la vendita; l´acquirente sarà quindi tenuto a pagare il corrispettivo in fattura. Per ottenere le necessarie autorizzazioni sono necessarie, generalmente, circa 8 settimane." or via google translate: "Export - Unless otherwise agreed the export applications must be submitted by the buyers. Any denials will not in any way to cancel the sale, the purchaser will be required to pay the fee on the invoice. To obtain the necessary authorizations are required, usually about 8 weeks." So, if you want to buy and ship a coin older than 50 years out of Italy you have to get an export license? Anyone have any experience with this?
Sounds like a headache to me, but yes, from what is stated in Italian, you, the buyer, must file an export application and it must be approved before they will ship your coin. However, you must be aware that your application can be denied for any reason and you are still obligated to the sale and would have to figure out how you're getting the coin shipped to you. My advice, don't do it.
