Is this a good idea? I am very skeptical. A non-collector asked me about buying and selling coins seen on the Pinterest site. I have no experience with Pinterest. Any thoughts or comments?
If the Pinterest account is linked to an established seller than it should be okay. If it's an individual just selling coins, I wouldn't take a chance on anything over $20. I use Pinterest to promote my eBay listings. So anyone interested in a coin I'm selling will see my feedback rating through Pinterest.
There's certainly safer places to start out or operate in. It'll be just like everything else though, some good some bad
I browsed some coin listings on Etsy the other night and was surprised to see the number and quality increasing. Granted, there was plenty of garbage and some bad fakes, but also some real dealers listing there now. I might try selling some inexpensive World coins there, for fun. Or not, depending on my whims. It will be interesting to see what happens with the online coin market when eBay has less of a monopoly on the global "do-it-yourself" auction market.
Buy anywhere you feel your evaluation skills and the quality of the images leave you as confident as you want to be regarding your purchase. Every purchase which isn't in-hand before money moves is a risk; we each have to develop our own standard of risk aversion .
