I am new at collecting and wanted to hit an auction tomorrow I saw on Proxibid.com. Any recommendations for buying coins at online or in person auctions? Thank you.

I've never used proxibid.com, so I cannot speak to them, nor to the protections they offer to buyers.

In general, for online auctions, the individual must have good pictures, and must have a good reputation. Anyone can steal pics and put them online...the coin you see may not be the coin you receive. If the person has been around for a long time with a good rep, then you're probably okay.

For in-person auctions, just know your stuff, and view the coins in advance. Set the maximum price you're willing to bid, and stick to it. Don't let emotion make you bid higher than you want to.

Just as a piece of general advice: If you have to ask this questions, you're probably not ready to bid, online or in person. Do a little homework and read some books. If you want to bid online, use reputable sellers on reputable sites. If you want to bid in person, attend an auction or two without bidding on anything before you hop in on the action.

    Good luck!

Okay, you read that. Now read it again.

    And again.

And keep on reading it until it is engraved on your brain.

If you have set a max of $99.99 and the bidding goes to $100, LET THE ITEM GO!

There is no shame in being back bidder!

    WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
As to going to an auction for the first time.
    1. Keep your hands in your pockets.
    2. Don't bring a checkbook with you.
    3. Don't bring a credit/debit card with you.
    4. Don't bring more cash than you need for Lunch and to get home.
    5. Watch, listen, think how much you saved when you get home.

Proxibid is just an online site FOR an auction company - there is a company near me that uses them and I've gotten several coins from their auctions, but always from the sale in person. I've used PB to bid online several times, but I'm always outbid.

Know the value of the coin ahead of time, whether this is through books or by other means. Also only buy coins that are graded by a reputiable grading company to insure proper grading and conditions [IMG]

That is excellent advice that should be heeded. Even those who have been in the hobby for any length of time, needs to be reminded of this.

Online auctions have become very popular in current years. Some of auction sites are as a matter of fact sell everything from outdated things to even automobiles and others sites specialize in only one sort of production.
There are different ways to make profits with the help of arizona auctions. You can sell everything you want. The main task is to find the buyers. You can use online auctions from time to time to sell some of your out of dated household items. Some “auctioneers” using this rule earn thousands of dollars per month!
In order to boost your auction earnings you can use some simple techniques. First of all you should put your photo. It’s very important that you include a photo to capture the eye of shopper. People always look at pictures at the same beginning and then read text. You can notice that newspapers and magazines use the same rule. So, you should remember that an auction shopper want to look at photos at once and only then read the titles of your items.

Here is one - unless you can personally examine the coins and tell if they have been cleaned, don't buy raw / unslabbed coins.
