I would like to add a CC Morgan to my collection. I'm not a "Morgan guy" but do have a couple. Since Carson City coins go for more than the other mints (all else being equal), I thought I would add a nice graded common date CC to be my Morgan center piece. Does the "GCA Hoard" command a premium among graded CCs (again, all else being equal)? How about the mint packaging? In my mind, I think I'd like to have an NGC-graded GCA slab with the original box and COA (NGC because they use the GCA slab and it will go back into the box). eBay shows LOTS of MS 63 around $220-250 and MS 64 in $240-280 range. Does this seem to be the going rate (aside from an occasional hot deal)? I haven't seen all that many of these in person at shows or shops to be able to make a good price comparison. Any thoughts about this are welcome! Thanks! Rob
That's about right for the graded in box gsa morgans on feebay. Just seen a couple on stacks bowers in 63 sub $200 for that $ you'll buy an 82-4 if you can grade there's a lot of raw ones and you could maybe pick up an ungraded gsa slab with a 64-5 for $200 I see em local all the time raw ungraded in package. I always look but there always 63-4. And no toning
Just looked there's 2 63s at $170 reserve starting bid and 2, 64 for $200 starting bid + Bp they'll likely sell for one bid so that works out to about $190 for a 63 and $230 for a 64
Thanks for your help already, Bill. As a related question, how much of a premium does the GSA slab add to NON-CC coins? I know that most of the GCA coins were CC. I see fairly common S, O and P coins selling (asking, anyway) for WAY more than standard "uncirc" money. Does the rarity of non-CC GCA coins really bump prices 5x or more? Any other comments, folks? Rob
I would buy the nicest CC Morgan I could afford, and not care about the slab. GSA or regular NGC/PCGS slab, does it make a difference? All my Morgans are either nicely toned or have PL surfaces...
