I think this may be a good example of buy the coin and not the slab. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1865-PCGS-A...36?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f276d71d4 I have the 1864 through 1871 and I believe all my coins are better grades than this one. However, some of mine are what I would consider XF40. I know it is difficult just using the photos, but this coin does not look like an AU50 to me
As long as the bid doesn't go up, I would personally take the deal, as even XF lists for $40. But as for eye appeal and wear, it's not AU worthy.
this could be a scammer beware one time i w as doing research on the slabbing of coins and came across a very fishy website for more or less robbers and basically told you how do open them with out damage the coin !!
Really evil bad pics. Else the Chinese are at it again. Product resides in Phoenix Az. Jack? You out there? I don't think this is one of yours........
I can see some nice details, but there is wear on the leaves to the left of the shield and the WE isn't as strong as it should be. The over all appearance makes it an XF40 I am thinking. I am wondering if someone tampered with the case and removed the real AU coin and they are selling it raw and replaced it with a $20 wholesale coin and hope to get $50. There seems to be quite a bit of this going on in the auctions these days. Once in a great while you can find a bargain, but you really got to look sharp to find them.
Bidding ended at over $51 on this coin. I have other 65s and I think mine looks better than this one. It is funny how the grades on different coins seems to fluctuate a bit at least. It's possible the pictures aren't that clear, but this coin doesn't look AU to me.
