This auction gives a whole new meaning to buy the coin not the holder. Here is a coin that can be had in an ANACS holder for under $20 any day of the week! http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-D-Mint-Err...ryZ41089QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Reverse has not been met! Super rare PCGS plastic!
well how do you know the bidders are not collecting the holder. one man's meet is another man's poison to eacht heir own us criticizing someone for their collection when we are all collectors here is like the pot calling the kettle black if you get my drift
Reminiscent of the 1937-D three-legged buffalo. Interesting how this guy is trying to leverage the "possibly unique PCGS designation" of "Detached Leg", when ANACS makes this designation all the time. I checked PCGS population reports, and did not see a listing for these errors. Apparently they don't break them out seperately.
What a pack of idiots. What would you buy with $510? Lets see, I'd prefer #4 1909 S Lincoln in VG (trends = $125 in VG). Or just about anything else, but this lot. How about you?
I don't know, but I do know it wouldn't be that. I wouldn't pay more than face for a modern "error" coin. For $500 I could buy a few quarter eagles and at least know that in a year's time I will have invested in something worthwhile that I could get my money back out of, unlike the sure loss that coin poses. Once again, a fool and his money.... Guy~
What if: You are an avid Jefferson Collector and all of your newer Jeffersons are in PCGS slabs. You have been searching for one of these for 2 years and this is the first you have seen? in fact this is the only PCGS slabbed coin of its kind and you collect PCGS slabs? I too would not pay that kind of money for a modern error, but many do. To each their own. People say I am crazy for paying $300.00+ for a large cent too.
Agreed. 10,200 coins in slabs labeled "2005-D Mint Error 5C PCGS MS64 Detached Leg Bison" Then sell 'em all on e-bay, one at a time.:mouth:
Up to $760 !!!! Still hasn't met reserve. Maybe it never will, and those bidders will get off the hook.
I don't think it is a coincidence that the bidder on this coin at this price has a grand total of 2 items bought on eBay. Then again, I'm not a modern error collector either, so what do I know...Mike
p.s. couldn't the same argument be made for "full step" Jefferson's too? (i.e. the TPGs have "made" the market in this silly strike characteristic)
are you kidding?. holders, capsules, pouches, boxes, certificates are very important to me. that's mean the person in charge the coins were taking good care of it. i don't buy any modern coins without complete things. i want to buy anything just like i buy it directly from the mint. no wonder i got 99.5% of my collections direct. period.
Lets try this again! http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-D-Mint-Err...ryZ41089QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Should have taken the $760.00 bid and ran.......LOL
Hi Nick; Unique or not $16 seems like a lot of money to ship a coin that doesn't weigh more than a few ounces. Even with a $1000 worth of insurance it shouldn't cost that much. I think these e-bay auctions jack up the shipping to make even more money. Just my opinion though; don't want to offend any of you folks who sell on e-bay. Ken
Hey Ken, I was only being facetious about it costing more for a unique holder - The whole auction is outrageous if you ask me. I quess if you collect slabs and don't care about whats in it might make since. To each his own. As for the S&H charge if someone going to pay $800 for this they shouldn't mind being ripped off a little more on shipping. Or maybe they are planning on mailing it via overnight service. This does bring up a good question about PCGS what are they doing putting this on the label in the first place - can't even get them to put CONECA RPM#'s for Jeffersons on the label?
