Here is another thought that I would like to share:

When you are making unsolicited sell offers to your dealer, please have a buy the group offer.
As much as most of us (dealers) would love to look up the values for every coin in your holdings, the truth is, most of us don't have the time.
We all know that you are searching for the best buy offer, and there is nothing wrong with that. The fact is, we are not auctions. If we make a bid for your holdings, that price will not change. So quoting what X dealer is paying versus Y dealer is not really important.
Most of us get many offers per day. Please take that into consideration.
Emailing a large list of coins is great, but if there is no price to take it all, most reply's will be "sorry not interested".
Most collectors have some idea of what they want for their coins, so share this information with your dealer.

    You will both be happier.

What's the best way to handle the situation when you are dealing with the estate of a collector and have no idea what his/her stuff is worth, but it obviously isn't a high-end collection and the probate/tax laws require you to come up with a value?

That is a bit tough. We do this on a regular basis, and charge for our time. If it turns out there is some high end material. Like a key date, then we buy and do the service for free.
