Help me understand the history of this coin. Years ago, I was told that opinions had changed on this variety and it was no longer thought of as an overdate. True or wrong information? What is going on with the date?

Not sure what the under-date is supposed to be, but it looks to me like a 1 under the 4 (1821).

Not a true overdate--regardless of the label.

Really sweet coin, though, and at AU50 I would think gold sticker rather than green

edit to add: by the way, if you check the PCGS validation page it's listed as the 1824 over various dates...which it obviously isn't.
