There is something about Flowing Hair-Bust Capped 50 cent pieces that just command respect. I find that the Capped Bust 50's have outstanding eye appeal in the VF20-XF45. The naturally aged grey look, with strong detail on such a fine coin just really jumps out at me. I have coins of more value, but love my slabbed Bust Halfs. How about you?
Boy you will start a war with this. Are you talking about only US coins? If you are only talking US coins, I like the capped bust, but they aren't the prettiest in my eyes. The draped bust would have a shot at it. However, I believe you will have many claiming coins from our "golden age" of coinage, namely WL halves, St Gaudens, buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, etc. For me, the 3 most beautiful US designs, (in no order), would have to be St Gaudens $20, WL half, and the Oregon Trail commemorative half. If it were 4 coins I would include the buffalo nickel. But, you are going to get almost as many answers as responses. This is great, since it shows we had good designs in this country, up until the last 50 years or so at least. Chris
Well - the correct color grey is very nice in that range. Some of the whiter ones are nice but just not as nice as a good solid gun metal grey.
