I am looking to add to my silver holdings ...

Thought by getting bullion with a slight numismatic kicker is an interesting way to invest

Are these decent prices for mixed dates pre-1921 morgans? Is one better than the others?

    Unc. $639 a roll ($31.95 per coin)
    AU $540 a roll ($27 per coin)
    EF $480 a roll ($24 per coin)
    F/VF $449 a roll ($22.45 per coin)

I think each coin contains about $17.50 in silver

I am basically buying it as a silver investment ... but with a little numismatic value kicker (also just to peak my coin collector interest a little bit)

    (I already own over 500 ASE's )

I am sort of leaning towards the UNC's, since they offer the biggest spread between what I am buying the coins for and what the dealer is selling single coins for ... however I want to look at them first to see if they are cleaned or sliders. For the uncs i would be paying $31.95 per coin and that dealer is selling single unc coins for $43.00 (a $12 spread). For the F/VF, i would be paying $22.45 per coin and that dealer is selling single coins in that grade for $24.50 (a $2 spread). So I sort of feel like a have a little more built in (potential) profit in the uncs. Keep in mind I wouldnt be selling them for at least 10 years.

Probably would only buy 2 or 3 rolls (not a huge investment).

Thanks for any feedback or advice.

They look like decent prices to me. I just bought a couple of AU's at my coin shop that listed at $26 each. Morgan's are pretty popular for the numismatic value. I would love to get that Unc. roll at $639, but then again I like Morgan's. Good luck

thanks tex. yes i think youre right ...

i do want to look before i buy tho
if they look like MS60/61 perhaps its not such a good deal
if they look like MS62/63 ... not bad

I was going to say the same thing, be careful of what they say are Unc's. You know they will be very picked over, but if they truly are Unc I think the price is good unless they are truly crappy.

So i ended up buying 2 rolls of mixed date 1878-1904 unc morgans
the dealer let me cherry pick through 6 rolls to make 2

plus i also was able to use an online (website) coupon to save $20 on a $1000 order ...
so i bought these for only $629 per roll ($31.45 each)

this is a typical coin ... sorry for the bad photo ... it was taken with my iphone.
