I am sure this question has come up in the past. I am wanting to know the best way to get bulk quantity of world coins without getting ripped off. I don't care of silver or value. What I am trying to do is get a coin from every country which produced coins. I really don't want to have to go on ebay, and the local coin dealer charged me an arm and a leg for some (I didn't know better). Is there a place or web site which sells them in bulk?
I bid on 5 pound bulk world coin lots on ebay. The one I eventually got for the price I wanted had a great variety. I have been sorting through it for months, not in a hurry. I found one silver in the lot, mexico. It had coins from about 50 countries in it. I have no idea if that is average or if I got lucky. Good luck.
Thanks. I have a four pound bulk coming to me today I got through ebay. I paid a so-so price for it. I only hope it was worth my time. There is another delear in the next town who gave me a deal, however it's a 45 minute drive and I cannot afford to pay for the gas every time I need to stock up. I guess I sould be asking is how do dealers get their forign coin? And could a lay person get it from the same place without haveing to pay throught the nose.
I would look through ebay carefully and really pay attention to the pics. If its a lot without detailed pics I skip it. There are good lots on ebay, I buy them from time to time, but you have to: 1. Spend quite a bit of time really doing your homework 2. Be willing to pay more per pound for a good lot versus a junk lot. Way too many people just concentrate on the lowest price per pound, if you do that you will basically be buying the bulk junk no one wants. I paid $85 for a 6 pound lot before, many would never consider it due to its price. However, I know what a good lot looks like, and when I got it there a lot of $3+ BV coins in there, and about 10 that were $40+ coins in it. Buying bulk lots is a skill just like any other. PM me if you want a couple of other tips. I don't need to give away all of my secrets.
I get mine from Smyrna Coins, great variety, decent price. I got one silver coin in it once, but it was a 40% silver lol. http://www.smyrnacoin.com/product/FOREIGN_5POUND/5-Pound-Foreign-Coin-MixBest-Value.html
I think most dealers just get theirs by buying from people who come in to sell them. The ones I go to don't really want them and throw them in a tub somewhere until they have time to sort through them. So I don't think that's really an option for you.
Either buy bulk one type or shop around for a collection. Never seen the bulk assortment! I use these guy for bulk, better pricing: https://www.cachemetals.com/store/items_large.php?CategoryID=5&PID=2&ItemID=8 Maybe i should ask them for an assorted deal. Keep you posted.
