Basically I like that design. But since the Madara Horseman was the only winner of the design contest, I guess that will be the only design they want to use - on all eight denominations. And I am not sure about the country name. What is currently used on the Bulgarian coins is the short version (БЪЛГАРИЯ). Ah well, we have another couple of years until we see the actual coins ... On those pages frizio has various different kinds of designs. There are projects which could be called purely fantasy such as the "Euro 2008 Football Cup" designs. In other cases his designs are based on themes that mints/governments announce. For example, the Spanish government decided last year that Clara Campoamor should be depicted on future euro circulation coins. There has been no decision about a possible design, what denomination should be used etc. - but why not visualize what such a piece might look like? Some of his designs are what frizio calls "graphic interpretations". Those are based on actual coin designs. Sometimes a government will only publish a meager drawing first, then it is nice to get a better idea of the design. Or, in the case of common €2 commems, the European Commission will publish a "generic" design first; then frizio "localizes" that - see the Treaty of Rome pieces or the 10 Years EMU/Euro designs. Some designs that he made for micronations can even be purchased. Maybe medals rather than coins, but flesh and blood ... errm, copper and nickel ... rather than images. Christian
