There are some instances where the clash is very faint. Your specimen looks like it could be one of them. Chris
At first I thought it was a clash as well. Then after looking more I’m leaning towards a well placed hit. It’s a 1948 and graded NGC 65 FBL, so it would be cool if it was indeed a clash. I’ll post more photos of it when I get it in hand.

I don't know... It looks like it is a light clash It's not the an example of the Franklin Lover's 1948. That doesn't mean it's not a clash. Franklin Lover's website has been out of commission for a few years now. Look for clash marks in other areas. Part of "E Pluribus" will often show up behind Franklin's head. The bell will show up between his eye and the bridge of the nose. Corresponding clash marks will often show up on the reverse (assuming the die pairing has not changed).
Yeah I saw that. Doesn’t appear to match mine. Although, I do have a 53-S that matches the example on that site! 66CAC
Thanks.. I know very well what it is.. It was just that the kind of blurry picture that was provided didn't help me determine if it was or not.
Several Franklin dates have the fie clash that creates this. I can't tell from the photos if it is or isn't.
Some of them are quite subtle. For example, I am credited with the discovery of the variety on the 1957, and that is quite difficult to see!
Here is the best photo I’ve taken since getting the coin in the mail. I can probably get some better photos later if needed.
