Bubbled British Penny

    What say you coin folk?


    This was given to me in chance just a few hours ago. I do not remember ever seeing such a thing.

    Well unless they changed the composition this year, they make their pennies out of copper plated steel, and it looks like they sometimes have the same problem with bubbles in the plating that we do with our Zincoln cents.

    i have similar variety in 1/2 rupee 1939

    hi,
    i also wanna know what it is exactly. people just calle it die error.this happens during the minting process or afterwards/

    I believe the currently accepted explanation is that it actually occurs before the minting. It is a result of the copper plating not bonding properly to the underlying planchet due to contamination or slight corrosion on the surfaces of the core material.
