Hi all, I am new to the forum and also new to the coin hobby and wanted to post some of my findings so far. recently I have only been able to get BU done rolls from my local banks due to the recent ( second ) coin shortage and really didn’t have much hope but thought I would give them a go. to my surprise I have found a toned 2021 dime and wanted some opinions on it. I’ve also got 3 rolls of BU crossing the Delaware quarters to go through so will update once I’ve gone through those with a new post if I find anything interesting. Many thanks in advance for any helpful comments on what this may be. I have just realized I cannot post pictures just yet, unsure why but as soon as the site allows I will upload them.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Darren! I think it takes a short while for CT to fully process your registration.
It takes a day or so for new members’ information to update across all servers, you should be able to in a day or so after joining…Spark
Thank you all for the answers, I will wait until I have access to post pictures before I start any other threads in the future
I can now upload pictures so will do this below Possible BU roll error coin by Darren Edwards posted Jul 9, 2021 at 5:24 PM Possible BU roll error coin by Darren Edwards posted Jul 9, 2021 at 5:24 PM
You posted "possible error" but didn't mention what you are seeing. In order to get help, we need to know the question. Also, please post photos Full Image. After uploading a photo, two buttons appear: Thumbnail and Full Image. Click on Full Image to embed your photo for easier viewing. Good luck.
Sorry it thought I had listed it in the title. The right hand dime is toning and appears rainbow colored in different lights. I will remember the image settings in the future, thanks again
Hi and welcome to CT. Toning is not an error. All coins tone to a degree, some only a little and some dramatically. Mainly it depends on how the coin has been stored and what environmental conditions it has been exposed to
Not an error just normal toning.the coin's metal is very reactive and can change very easily in the right environment under the perfect conditions. As yours is stored in wraps which are cardboard this is often seen in the older mint sets also from the 50'S.Some not as intense as others and all are really different.
Just to add to @expat post, toning is environmental damage and while some like toning and will pay extra for it, it is still just damage, not an error.
Thank you for all the comments and helping me learn the correct terms for certain conditions. I will probably still keep it as I think it looks pretty cool ♂️ I will keep hunting and hopefully find more interesting things along the way
