Here is a neat little Morgan that came my way today - 1888 with a broken planchet - Circulated ,not bent & cool as heck in my book- Im sure it was just cracked at some point & had a bit of help actually breaking but doesnt show any major signs of tampering.
Looks like it might have been dipped in liquid nitrogen and then dropped onto a concrete surface. Neat little collector's item. Take Care Ben
Hope you don't mind but I've ID'd a couple of areas which lead me to think it might have been repeatedly bent back and forth until it broke. Notice the leading edge is pushed back from the break area on both halves. Not certain as I don't have the coin in hand, but from the pictures it seems... I'll delete the pics if you want me to.
There is a bit of crap at the spot you did circle but as I said Im sure it had help. No deflection to the coin ,& just the reverse has the leading edge showing a slight upheaving of the surface in the spot circled.
