This is a CWT, aka a Civil War Token. It’s all one coin with the obverse (?) in the first photo and the reverse (?) in the second photo. Even all of the words are the same. I’m not sure if this is an error or not but this coin is full of errors. ONE COUNTRY is centered with BROAS PIE BAKER at the top and the address of 181 41st St. N.Y. is along the bottom. Under the N in COUNTRY is a single star with an H directly under the star. As for errors, this coin is full of them. The first noticeable thing is it was struck slightly off center. It has a number of die chips and die cracks. Some of the cracks are larger than normal and others touch the rim. On the obverse side there is a very thin crack running through the H under the star. It looks like a speck of dust but in hand, it’s a crack. A few die chips are on the Y in N.Y. The reverse has more errors. This is where the best die cracks are. Also, under the R and Y in COUNTRY and below the R in BAKER is a lamination peel. In a few places you can see a few letters. This was caused by a clash in the dies. Looking closely you can see the outline of a design but I can’t quite make it out. The reverse looks damaged but it’s the clash that causes it. If anyone has more information on this coin (token) please feel free to post it. My Internet connection is terrible today. Ophelia is affecting it and we’ve had a lot of rain today. Nothing heavy, just steady.
Yes, I've seen this particular token too. Any given week there are tons of CWTs on Great Collections. I find it an extremely interesting area, but I already have too many irons in the fire to get into them.
A really interesting CWT but something that needs to be closely examined in-hand. What ever the cause of all this the die was near failure by the time it was struck. Bruce
I find that attributing the Bros tokens really hard these days. The new book on the subject changed all the attribution numbers with no conversion table. Then to make matters worse, one of the pictures that you use to attribute these dies in OP has an error. The new book is really a big improvement over the old one in many ways. BUT the Bros part of the book really poor. I can hardly use it. Here is a piece that will clear up some of your confusion. This token was formerly called NY 630-M-6a. Now it's NY 630 L-9a, I believe. I am frustrated and tired of fooling with it. The reverse of the piece you have is the same reverse as was used on the token I posted above. The obverse die clashed with the reverse die, which put a lot of the marks on the reverse of the piece you have. The other side is one of three other dies. I think that it is common. Sorry. That's the best I can do.
Your Broas token is a NY-630-L-7a. The pics in the book are reversed, so 29310 is now 29315. The obverse with the date is a 1061. 1062 doesn't have the H above the date.
