Is this "broad struck"? I see "ridge" that runs around most of the penny. At first I thought just PMD but when I looked closer its actually like a ridge thats under the letters. I dont see anything more than MD with the letters but the "G" looks kind of off like its not quite right on the correct angle with the other letters. On the reverse I cant see any ridge or anything but there was clearly some serious grease in the die up top and maybe some typical MD on the letters. Does my assessment seem about right? See anything I dont see on this cruddy 87?

On the obverse there is die deterioration. This is a similar coin to another thread which was just posted. Not very rare for zincolns.

die deterioration caused that ridge looking thing not broad striking? Just when I thought I figured something out!

If it was Broadstruck it would be slightly or much larger than a normal Cent.. That is because it was struck without the 3rd die which is the retaining collar which holds the planchet in place.. That's why it's called Broadstruck because the coin looks broader.

I was thinking like struck on angle in the wrong sense. Its what makes this so hard. thanks for the clarifications.
