http://www.royalmint.com/newdesigns/designsrevealed.aspx I think Britian's new coinage is extremely cool -- beautiful design and very innovative. However, I've never heard any comments about it from anyone in the U.K. Do most people like it, or not. Do they care?
matthew dent was selected out of 4000 entries i think he done a great job and me been a irish man lol dave
Of course this way they cannot easily phase the 1p and 2p coins out. Note by the way that the 50p piece now has a "bottom corner" while the old one was oriented like the 20p coin. (New commems, such as the Blue Peter piece, however have the "top corner" again ...) Christian
I wasn't that impressed. Trying way too hard to be 'different' and 'unique', and the coins are disjointed and ugly individually. Like they were designed to be part of a set.... Hmm... I wonder why that is?
I personally don't care for the new designs much. As one who usually welcomes new designs, I find these lacking.
Very different and unique... but I personally don't like it. I prefer more classic designs. Also I think it would be hard to read the denominations, specially for foreign people.
As for the non-numeric denominations, well, except for the $1 coin, Americans do the same thing. I sure prefer digits, but then I am not from the UK or the US. Interesting though that you say you prefer "classic" designs - I have heard and read complaints about the new British coin designs being too traditional. Can't do it right, it seems. Christian
