Breaking open a 1973 US Proof set

I have a 1973-S US Proof set. There are cracks in the case of this one. Enough to obstruct the view of the Ike dollar in it. As a result I am planning on breaking this one open. I have never done this before and am very nervous about messing up some nice looking proofs.

Any suggestions on how to break it open safely would be appreciated.

I suggest leaving it. What are your plans once you crack it out?

 

I was gonna add the Ike to an album. Then send the Nickel and Dime to a couple of friends who collect those. Probably gonna use the other ones as gifts or trade stock.
