I am looking at some Carson City GSA Morgan Dollars. I was wondering how important it is to get the box and COA that came with them. I found a 1882 at a good price but I am not sure it has the box. Thanks, Wornslick
If you care about the GSA attribution, it's extremely important. Otherwise, how do you know it was released as part of that sale? If you just care about the coin, then it matters nothing.
I would assume because it is still in the GSA slab. I would say try and get the box and the proper COA if you can. If you ever want to sell it it will tend to sell better and possibly higher if it has the box and paperwork with it. It is true that the coin is what it is, but with the slab, box, and papers, it is also part of a larger story.
you can pick up the box and doc all over the place. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkpar...&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
Thanks for all the advice. Yesterday I bought a 1884 Carson City GSA Morgan Dollar graded MS-64 with the box and COA. It sure is a beautiful coin.
I have a number of AE gold proofs in a capsule, no box and coa. How do I locate the specific years box and coa and purchase them? The AEG proofs are currently bid at over $2050 (Apmex is at $2150) and the ones without COA are at around $1900.
Owle: look at what's selling on ebay to see what boxes came with them. the coa will have the date on them when you find those. you will also often find listings on ebay for just the box, capsule and coa. example 1 example 2 example 3
Thanks for the threads Krispy. I will try to bid on the ones I need, generally 1 oz. boxes and coa. Problem is that these are the most popular. There is a huge spread between aeg proofs with and without box and papers.
