Well not actually lol... but just acquired this bill from my Dad who found a bunch of paper money and coins he had saved from a trip to Hong Kong about 10 years ago, after cleaning out his desk and closet. (How come I never find that kind of stuff when I clean my place?) Anyway he kept the coins but let me have the bills... among them was this gem here... I have quite a few coins and bills with dragons, but this is the first turtle-dragon I have found: Made me think of Bowser from the Super Mario games... or Gamera (OK, Gamera's just a prehistoric turtle, not a turtle-dragon, but still he somewhat resembles one...) This is also one of the last of the series of bills produced by Hong Kong before they reverted to Chinese rule. Though the Hong Kong dollar still exists as the currency there. Wikipedia has a bit of info on turtle-dragons (or dragon turtles, whichever you prefer)... it is seen as a symbol of wealth and security, making it a very appropriate subject for a piece of currency.
very nice they have this series all the way upto 500 magnificient the place is also great i had gone there before the takeover myself what a place and what a note
Lovely looking note and the Turtle Dragon is fun, I bought a carved wooden one as a xmas gift for a Dragon collector last year :smile did not know it was also on a note
I have the 50 from this series also... features a temple lion... my Dad apparently didn't save any notes higher than 50 (don't know what the exchange rate was at the time but my guess is he decided anything higher than 50 was too expensive to save.) Have a thing for dragons and often seek out coins and notes that feature them to add to my collection. I am very thankful to my Dad for giving me this; it's become one of my favorites in my collection. Edit: Looked into it and at the time the Hong Kong dollar was at a fixed exchange rate of 7.8 Hong Kong dollars to the US dollar. Would have made this bill worth about $2.50... a 500 dollar note would have been worth aproximate US $64... a bit high to save as a souvineer I suppose lol...
SMB is exactly what I thought when I read that title. My son loves that. We once found a Pokemon coin in a roll of halves. My son said that someone put it in there just for us. He was let down when I told him that there were just ripping the bank off for 50¢ (and ultimately us), but since he loved it, I guess all is good.
i just didnt get the title of this thread until you mentioned Pokemon it flew way over my head .. BUT the turtle dragon is still cool lol
wow the notes are cheaper now i guess. when i went there the exchange rate was 7. i guess thats the problem with money. there were also 1000 dollar notes when i went and they looked yellow/golden in the distance but i didnt get any of those
