    That's AMAZING! Coins dating back to 1795! First thing to do is clean them until they shine ;-)

    They say in one of the twitter messages that there is some 1854 coinage, specifically 1854 dimes.

    They also say in the news clip that they 'soaked the contents in acid' after the 1855 excavation. Lovely.

    Yup, just doing their job as responsible conservators, as best they understood how, circa 1855.

    Yet another illustration of why problem-free older coins are so hard to come by -- and, for that matter, why TPG standards are sometimes a bit "relaxed" for those issues.
