Can anyone say where this term came from or how it originated?

I'm writing a paper on the 1834 Quarter Eagle and the second of two obverses is dubbed Booby Head. I know this is used for some of the Cents as well.

Please quote your source if it's from a book.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I can't say about the gold piece but no one knows when or where the term Booby head was first applied to certain varieties of the 1839 large cent. I do know it was in use by the 1870's
