I've been watching this item for its' entire listing run time...was the high bidder until 10 seconds to go, when I tried my "sniping myself at the last second" with a rather significantly higher bid. Unfortunately, eBay seems to have "misplaced" my bid, because the item ended at a price lower than my bid. I know it should have gone through, because I received another option to bid again...but when it ended, suddenly my bid was nowhere to be seen. In fact, my final bid doesn't even show up on the items' bid history...so I say BOO to eBay for not processing my bid. http://www.ebay.com/itm/350955854375?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649 Take a look at the reverse of the 1953 proof...I'm pretty sure it's an Engraved Tail Feathers. Oh well, someone got a good deal on a rare variety! Time to let it go...
I believe the CPG lists a 1952 proof, 1953 proof, and 1957 D business strike with hand engraved tail feathers.
Just bid what you are willing to pay. If you win, great, if not, wait for another to be available. I bid on dozens of coins a week and seldom win, but when I do, I feel great about my purchases. No buyers remorse with this method, and no getting caught up in bidding wars and paying too much.
Use an online sniping program some are free for about 5 bids per week I pay $5 per month for mine, unlimited bids. It bids in the last 5 seconds of the auction without fail, I show my hand at the last moment and no one can manually outbid me. I have a 95% success rate, but of course the high bidder wins snipe or not..
If there is a silver lining in this, it's that someone else agreed that there was a rare variety in that lot...
