I look through my bills all the time and look for things that stick out. I found this bill with appears to be a bold serial number. I thought it was my eyes playing a trick, so I laid all my ones on a a table, and this bill stuck out like a sore thumb. Then I thought maybe it was a different series, but all my bills are 2006. Then I thought maybe it was crisper than the other bills, causing it to appear bold. I compared it with a couple other crisp notes, and it still stuck out like a sore thumb. As you can see, the serial number is much darker colored then the one below. Also notice the edges seem more jagged compared to the serial number on the note below it. I'm not finding much about bold serial numbers. It's probably nothing, but wanted to check.
It's an interesting find. As with any kind of printing, it's possible for something to be heavily inked or under-inked. You might also encounter ink smears among other problems. In this case, the third printing probably had a little too much ink. The serial numbers and the treasury seal are all printed together. It's likely that the other serial number and the seal are also darker than usual. Are they?
It's nothing, and quite common. There are some old threads here on CT with other examples that have been discussed. You can find this same 'bold-ness, heavier inked third print elements, in many different Series and types of notes, for example: small sized Silver Certificates with blue inks, FRNs with green inks or Legal Tenders / US Notes with red inks.
Any time you have a three step ink printing process, you will have deviation. Every difference in embossing, alignment, ink density, uneven digits, etc. are almost always typical and within the expected norm of production. I mean they aren't photocopies...
This morning when I was getting dressed I noticed that one of my socks was slightly darker than the other......
I found a dollar Bill that only has one number from the serial number that is bold...what makes it unique is the number that is bold is in the middle of the serial number....is it worth anything?
Probably not, but we’d know more if you post a photo. I just realized this thread is 8 years old. How do you newbies find these old threads ?
As being an old printer, I would say the packing of the cover sheet was a little too much. This will cause the print to be deeper. Put your finger on the back and slide it along where the numbers are. Do you feel the raised print? Just too much packing. No big thing unless it cut the paper.
