Leave it to me to find the strangest errors on coins.

I was searching through a roll of pennies for the more well known errors and varieties and stumbled upon this strange "blob" over "LIBERTY" on a 2006-P Lincoln Cent obverse---it appears to be molten metal flowing from the nape of Lincoln's neck down through the legend----there is also another blob of raised metal just NW of his shoulder---

    Opinions? One of kind?

Since these are zinc core with a thin copper layer joined top and bottom, these are almost always a bubble between the copper layer and the zinc, which is what this appears to be. As a type of defect, it is very common. As to being in the same spot, same amount, etc., might be close or is one of a kind, but the value is what ever you can get for it, probably under a dollar, but I don't collect them myself. Now if you had 10 exactly the same, you are looking at a die defect and much more desirable.

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. If what you think is actually the case, why then, would the bubble obliterate part of the "R" and the "T"? I'm not trying to argue with your opinion---it just seems that this would have occured somehow AFTER the coin was struck. Wouldn't the die have still made the letter impressions over the bubble if the bubble was on the blank planchet?
