Got a Facebook ad today that left me rolling my eyes. Morgans for $9.99 each - you pick the date! In "good" condition that sure looks like ms63 or better. Order in bulk for discounts (even though their melt value is over $13 right now). Would an order of 500 even put a dent in this kind of operation after I receive the fakes and challenge the charge?
Here's where they run afoul of any possible defense that they're not intentionally misleading buyers: "Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the United States government."
@Jack D. Young you think you can convince your Secret Service friends to “persuade” Facebook to ban these ads
Collectors know that old silver dollars melt for more than $9.99. Unfortunately the general public often does not.
Not even looking. They defile the art of Morgan collection. Since the series is one of the most popular, it stands to reason that counterfeiters would have a field day.
These offers are on Facebook daily, all with different sellers. My theory is that the sellers have nothing to do with the coins and get paid for how many places they can post the ad and how many purchases are made from that ad. One manufacturer outlet, all in China.
