Hello to everyone! Hope all is well! I found this blank while coin roll searching...It's very smooth and the edges are rounded....it weighs 2.5 g which makes me assume it's an LC..... I've looked for any possible markings to help me identify this blank with no success... Your thoughts are much appreciated! Thank you in advance!!! Dani
Yes it's a Type 2 Planchet - Copper coated Zinc Cent blank Planchet. Pre-1982 would weigh a little more. I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.lincolncentresource.com/Errors/Blanks_and_Planchets.html
Thank you! I now can add 1 more piece of useful info about coin collecting to my journal! Oh and an awesome new website!
Yup, that's a pretty cool one, especially to find in a roll. A blank that has not yet gone through the upset mill is known as a Type 1, after the rim has been upset (as on yours) it is a Type 2. To be completely technical, before upsetting the rim, the metal disk is known as a blank. After the rim is upset, it is a planchet.
Congrats Dani, The only places I've seen these are in shops so some must "escape" from the mints but not that often....
cool find Dani!. I've only found one in rolls. Only see them in shows and ebay otherwise. so cool when you find it yourself!!!
