I've taken an interest in blank planchets and would like to put together a set from cent to dollar. My question is some are listed as a certain date or Type I or Type II. How can these things be determined if it is blank Like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=524&item=3953798234&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW I can only guess that each was taken from a roll that only contained 1995 coins.
My suggestion would be to email the seller and ask how they know they are all 1995 planchets,, I personally would have to agree with your guess as the only way it could be known. Interesting question.
I found a blank once in a roll of FL-D's..I sold it to my dealer for $4.00!!!! The way to tell the TY1 and TY2 is the rim...this is all I know. Speedy PS The bankers had never seen such a thing before I showed them mine..then they passed it around the whole bank before I got it back...even to the other customers
Hi, "Blanks" have a flat, sharp edge. They are just as they were, when they were punched from the strip. Blanks are generally refered to as, "Type I". "Planchets" are generally refered to as, "Type II". They are blanks that have been run through the "upset mill", which gives them a raised, rounded rim. This is done to help extend the life of the coin.
Thanks Jody!! collect4fun Do you have a red-book?? In the back it has a page with a photo of blanks and tells about them. Speedy
Thanks Jody. Yes Speedy I have a red book, I'll take a look. Thanks. Here is the answer to the email I sent relating to the 1995 set. "Hi--They came from a dealer and the pack had 1995 on it --Really I don't think it makes a difference---they were all the same." Not the answer I was looking for!
