Blank Penny?

Hello. This is my first post.

I have what appears to be an unpressed penny planchet.

By conducting a balance test, it is of identical weight to a post-1982 penny.

In the first picture it is next to a normal penny. In the second picture, it is located in the very middle of the stack.

Is there a way to discern whether or not it is genuine? If it is genuine, might it be desirable?

    Thanks.

Well it appears to be a type 2 planchet - meaning it has gone through the upset mill because it has a rim. Is it collectible - yes. Can you retire next week - afraid not.

These blank planchets are collected by some and some will pay a premium for them. But how much that is I cannot say because I simply don't know. perhaps one of the error collectors will stop by and be able to provide you more info.

Ooooops - forgive my manners. Welcome to the Forum !!

    Welcome!

    Your piece looks real enough.

Seems to be a type 2 planchet with an upset (raised) rim.

They sell for about $1 on eBay.

    Nice find!
