They're more like fiat dollars to me but without a central banker sprinkling fairy dust on them and calling them money. Liberty dollars had silver in them.
That's not the first time either. You should read their terms for openig an account. If someone hacks you and causes damage to others through your account, they hold you responsible. I'd rather take my chances with FRNs even if they are nothing more than scented baboon feces.
They're not for me. At this point, the greatest threat to them spreading much farther might be the way they franchise their distribution or security.
I ordered a 1 Bitcoin money card from an Amazon seller about six month ago. They never aknowledged the order, never charged me for it, never filled the order, never answered my emails or Amazons. Amazon had to cancel the order after 38 business days. I originally just wanted one as a collectible. But after the Amazon episode one of those cards may become a rarity if you can actually get one before they chew the carpet.
The idea behind them is political. The Free Software community feels that it is very threatening to the population that every dollars transaction is trackable (for which I agree). They have been working on eletcronic "cash" which does not rely on identifcation for a long time. Ruben
