Lately when I browse the coin listings on eBay I see loads of listings for things like Feathercoin, Lifecoin, Goldcoin and possibly others. Bitcoin seems to be all the rage in the news lately but I've never heard of any of these others. Anyone know anything about these? I'm not planning to buy them, but they all seem to be getting a lot of bids. Here's an example:

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

Well, Bitcoins is first and foremost a business. They made big bucks with their business practice of selling imaginary currency. Other people who saw this as a way to make money decided to do it for themselves. I believe that 98% of those attempting the "Next Bitcoins" are destined to fail.
As for Bitcoins themselves, I think they may go down sometime soon.

Bitcoins seem to be gaining acceptance, but who's going to accept these other coins? Are people just buying them a speculators? Can anyone just make their own digital currency and sell it now?

I was reading about them on Wikipedia but whoever wrote the articles must have an advanced degree in computer science because it doesn't make any sense to me.

I think the guy who sold his imaginary friend on ebay proved you can sell the lumpentariet anything.

I think Warren Buffett once said if you can't understand something it might be because someone doesn't want you to understand it.

This is actually an extremely profitable form of currency. It does take a lot to wrap your mind around how they are gained, and a lot of people don't see the immediate value. Yes, the price has been fluctuating, but had gained a lot of steam in the past couple weeks. A friend of mine, and myself, have been successful in the "mining" of sorts. We've turned a small couple thousand dollar investment into 6 figures in a matter of a couple days. I would highly advise those to start looking into it, as its a growing trend, and the stock market will say for itself. It does take a fair bit of technical knowledge or know how to understand it, as well as generate it. We are actually in the middle of working on a massive scale project that may just take off once we go live. Can't say much right now, other than things are looking very good! I'm new to the CT community as of today, and have recently taken coin collecting up as a hobby. Both physical currency as well as virtual. There's just too much opportunity out there not to! I am very excited to be here!

Are you talking Bitcoins or these other coins though?
I've been seeing more and more of these under world coin searches on eBay. I wish I could filter them out actually because it's not what I'm interested in.

Okay, let's say that a guy would like to make a "wallet" with one of these virtual coin thingies. How do you DO that? I go to Zeta coin and all they have for links are "Downloads" "Links" and "Mining Pools". No links to creating an account or how to make a wallet. No directions on how to do anything.

    Oh, yeah: Welcome to CT.

-Your virtual wallet is effectively a computer or server somewhere. This is where your coins will be stored. There is a lot of discussion recently as to the security measures one should take to properly secure this. People's coins have been hacked and taken, only to find out that they were not secure enough.

I wouldn't recommend using any of the "highlighted" sites for this you may stumble upon while surfing the internet. You definitely need to have a partner or someone with a very technical background and good understanding of the internet and the mining community. They will be able to help guide you through decisions of mining, buying, selling, etc.

Doing this on your own could end up very disastrous if you're not sure quite what you're doing or trying to accomplish, and could end up with a lot of wasted time and money.

In other words, virtual currency isn't for me. I'd just be fresh meat for a hacker.

    Real nice...

-I wouldn't lose faith. I just highly recommend taking up a venture with someone who has a lot of technical experience.

Up until this point recently, I've just been a geeky tech person with little to no interest in stocks, investments, etc. This was a catalyst for us nerds to take hold with hopes of making something greater from a situation where geeks and nerds could and can prosper.

Without a financial / insurance adviser, you wouldn't know what to do, or how to invest your hard earned $, so to speak. I guess us nerds are now becoming digital currency finance advisers, or at least it may seem.

This market changes by the minute, so it's something that a lot of time and effort needs to be invested into to make it worth while. Granted throwing money at something may have it's perks (as the lottery does), but well positioned investments are your best bet to pay off in this scenario.
