Since yesterday was my birthday, I 'arranged' a few purchases (or winning bids) to fall on or after the 22nd. Both coins are of a 'type' I was missing by denomination (dupondius ) or 'device' (the reverse cross on the follis and a bit scarce)---and they are very affordable budget varieties. Dupondius of Vespasian; Rome 74 AD, 11.90 grans, 26.8 mm IMP CAESAR VESPASIAN AVG Laureate bust right PON MAX TR POT PP COS V CENS Winged caduceus between cornucopia RIC 756 Follis of Constantine I, Aquileia mint CONSTANTI NVS MAX AVG Laureate bust right GLOR IA EXERC ITVS Cross in center 'O' on banners, AQP RIC VII
The Vespasian is a scarce type in a pleasing grade, and the cross variety from Aquileia is wonderful - the cross is quite distinctive. I'd be happy to have both coins in my collection!
Thank you all for the kind words and BD wishes....I must admit this is the first birthday I actually feel older than the last. LOL My budget blitz has two more coins to go and if I win either I'll post them on or after Christmas... Happy Holidays!!!!
Sorry I missed your birhday, Mikey-Z ... => great OP-coins (I'm a fan of that sweet Vespasian example)
